Ready to get that sewing machine out of the box? In this four hour class, students will bring their machine (or arrange to borrow one of ours) and gather some basic tools to begin learning all about their sewing machine and how to use it. We will practice on some templates and scraps and then sew your very own reversible tote bag!
Beginners Class; no experience required.

Class Objectives: 
● Learn sewing machine parts & tool basics 
● Learn to sew on practice sheets & scrap fabric 
● Construct a simple tote bag 
● 1 session / 4 hours 
Class Supply List: 
● Sewing Machine & Instruction Manual 
● 2 yards of fabric; 2 coordinating colors (1 yard each color) 
○ 100% cotton fabric only, quilters cottons preferred 
■ JoAnn Fabrics Keepsake Calico along the back wall at the Colma store. There are some quilters cottons in the middle aisles. 
■ Fabric.com. Click the the “Quilting Fabric” link at the top of the page. Lots of choices. Allow at least 7 days for shipping. 
○ NO flannel, minky, denim or knits 
● Coordinating thread 
○ 100% cotton thread is best for your machine. Cheap threads are not good. 
○ Aurifil is the brand I like best. Can be found on Amazon and available for Prime shipping. 
● Machine needles 
● 2-3 empty bobbins suitable for your machine 
● Tape measure 
● Seam Gauge 
● Straight pins 
● Pin Cushion or magnetic bowl 
● Scissors 
● Pinking shears
