This class will be held via Zoom online. A link to the class will be sent to you 2-3 days before class.

Guided by Textile Designer/Artist Kathy Barlow, in this workshop, we'll gather together online to learn about:
• Clamped Shape Resists (Itajime Shibori)
• Bound Resists (Kanoko Shibori)

We will practice folding and dyeing your choice from NINE specific Shibori patterns in class and you'll be inspired to expand upon that. Believe us, once you get going you will be OBSESSED with the striking designs you can make!

Kathy has gathered all the specialty materials you'll need, and has assembled at-home Shibori kits for you, including a set of eight, 18" square thick cotton napkins. Such a good time to change from always using paper products, right?

Plus all kits include:
• Indigo Colored Fiber Reactive Dye
• Soda Ash Dye Fixer
• Special Fabric Detergent for Dyeing
• Wooden & Acrylic Shaped Resists for our patterns
• Rubber Bands for Kanoko Resists
• Set of Clamps for our Itajime resists
• Pair of Protective Gloves
• Printed Instructions including local and online supplies sources for future materials.

You will need to gather from home a few old containers like buckets or Tupperwares and a small whisk or spoon to dedicate to dyeing, a cloth or other face mask (to use briefly when mixing dye, fixer), some gallon-sized or larger plastic bags, an apron, a dropcloth or some old towels, and for one design some coins (quarters are great if you have 'em). More details in your printed instructions.

In class you'll also learn how to choose and prepare fabrics and dyes, and Kathy will briefly discuss other Shibori methods like Nui Shibori (hand-stitched resists). Our live class on August 23rd will take place on Zoom. You will also have access to sharing and extra content in a special Facebook group (so a Facebook account is very helpful but not mandatory). You will get details by email after enrolling.

Kathy is THRILLED to be able to bring her popular Shibori workshops into your home! Sign up quickly to grab a spot, and at the latest by Friday, August 14th to get your kit shipped to you on time. For curbside pickup outside the studio, your kits will be ready for you by Wednesday August 19th or sooner.

GIVEAWAY alert! On August 15th, Kathy will draw a random winner from all enrolled students to win a large white cotton twill chef's apron to dye as well! Good Luck!!

No experience is necessary. Invite a friend and come join us for color, pattern and creative camaraderie! Teens ages 16+ are welcome to attend class.
